Remembrance Day to weddings and private parties. Wherever we go, the impact
and spectacle of the band always adds to the occasion.
On his or her own, a single piper will always honour the occasion, giving their own
touch, selecting the right tunes, adding joy or solemnity as appropriate to the
event.
None of this comes without careful preparation and, as any musician will tell you,
practice and skill are the keys to successful performance so most members try and
make our practice sessions regularly. These are held once a week, every week.
Competitions
The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) organises competitions and
the North East Region has its own competitions annually every spring for pipers,
drummers and mini bands. Members can decide whether or not they wish to
compete and the band is currently working on some tunes with a view to entering
in the future.
Social
Members come from a wide area around York so occasionally a social event will
be arranged by band members for relaxation and perhaps a tune or two together.
Organisation
The Band has a formal constitution and an elected managing committee to
organise its affairs.
